In Greene County district court Kent Allen Poage, 49, of Urbandale was sentenced June 11 to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must complete a community college drinking driver’s school, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Poage was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; both were reduced by half because he has obtained a temporary restricted license. He must pay a $10 Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) surcharge, $72.60 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $100 court costs.
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Daniel Ray Newton, 30, of Grand Junction, attempted burglary- third degree; Nyakuot Gatkek Chulski, 19, of Ankeny, manufacture or possess with intent to deliver marijuana and failure to affix tax stamp; Nicklaus Andrew Brown, 24, of Jefferson, OWI- second offense; Luke Elwin Molle, 21, of Coon Rapids, OWI- first offense; Steven Logan Dzuris, 32, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Jason William Sheldahl, 49, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault- second offense, same charge in two separate cases. Trial dates were set for Sept. 29 in every case.
Cases were initiated as follows: Joseph Ray Thompson, 18, of Scranton, domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury; and Courtney Kern, 34, of Jamaica, driving while license barred.
